About and method
That disclosure comes first on purpose. A directory that lists businesses while quietly being one of them is worth nothing, and finding out later is worse than being told now.
Where the numbers come from
Every rating and review count here is the figure Yelppublishes on that shop's own page. We read every one of the 3500+ published reviews across 31 shops and reconciled our totals against what the platform states.
Yelp is the only platform where all 31of these shops have published reviews, so it is the only one where they can be compared to each other. Google and Yelp do not rate alike — Yelp filters a share of reviews out of its published average and runs lower — so mixing them in one column would compare two different things and present the result as a ranking.
You choose the order, not us
This directory has no editorial ranking and computes no score of its own. You sort by rating, by review count, or by fewest one and two star reviews, and every one of those orderings is something you could reproduce yourself from the source.
A number like “93 out of 100” reads as a measurement when it is an opinion with arithmetic wrapped around it. There isn't one here.
Why some shops show no breakdown
A shop needs at least 25published reviews before we show what customers praise or complain about. Below that a percentage describes almost nothing — one shop in this set holds a perfect 5.0 from a single review, and another holds a 1.0 from a single review. Neither number tells you anything useful, so neither gets dressed up as if it did.
What this does not tell you
- Nothing here judges repair quality. These are counts of what customers wrote, which is not the same as whether a gearbox was rebuilt properly.
- Review counts reward age and volume. A good shop that opened last year sits below an average shop that opened in 2009.
- We publish no prices, warranty terms, hours or certifications for these shops, because we have not verified them. A field we cannot source is left out rather than guessed at.
- Ratings move. Check any figure at the source before relying on it.
Where our own shop lands
Sorted by rating, Miramar Transmission sits at number 16 of 28shops with enough reviews to compare. It is measured on the same platform, with the same columns, as everything else on this page — including the unflattering ones.
Reviews collected directly
Most shops here are counted from their published reviews alone. Miramar Transmission also collects written feedback from customers in person, and 200 of those are included in its totals in the “what customers single out” section — which is why its denominator there reads higher than its public review count.
Those were counted with the same word lists applied to every other shop, not summarized or estimated. Any shop on this site can send us feedback it holds and be counted the same way.
Positive counts are how many customers raised something, not what share did. That favors shops with more reviews, which is why the denominator is printed beside every number. A shop needs at least 25published reviews to appear anywhere but the A–Z list.
Corrections
If a figure here is wrong or out of date, tell us. Ratings change constantly and we would rather fix a number than defend it.
